The 36 is a bus service operated by Transdev in Harrogate running between Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds. The service was re-launched in 2004 at a cost of £2.25 million.[1] In February 2008, the service featured in several BBC News television reports outlining the increasing popularity of bus travel in the UK.[2] In 2011, the fleet was re-engineered and remodelled with a new livery and some buses were borrowed from Yorkshire Coastliner as temporary replacements. It was again relaunched with 14 new vehicles (Wrightbus Gemini 3's built on a Volvo B5TL) on the 23rd of January 2016 following two events at Ripon and Harrogate (21st) and Leeds Briggate (22nd) and a VIP launch at the majestic hotel on the 21st.

Fleet

The fleet consists of 14 Volvo B7TL double-decker vehicles with a Wright Eclipse Gemini body equipped with spacious leather seats & a B7RLE single deck vehicle with a Wright Eclipse Urban body. Each vehicle features unique red and black paintwork with the "36" logo.

2012 Refurbishment

Further information: Transdev in Harrogate

In September 2011 it was announced a number of Harrogate and District buses were to be refurbished in 2012, The Route 36 was branded with the logo on the seats however he buses were completely revamped with leather seats throughout and painted into new colours. The fleet was renumbered from YJ53 and YJ06/YJ56 to X VTD and BJ52. The new buses were much more comfortable and relaxing, The 36 rote wasn't the only service to receive this change as other Harrogate and District buses including 770, 771 and 790 were all refurbished with new seats and new colours, red and black to match the 36 colours instead of red and yellow.

Riding Redefined

Around November 2015 the plans of a complete overhaul of the buses on the route 36 were released to the public through tabs on the old Volvo B7TL buses. The plans included were a library, 4G wifi, upgraded leather seating, USB ports for charging and announcements by Harry Gration from BBC Look North for several stops along the route.

The new fleet came into effect on the 24th January 2016, with previews of the new bus in Harrogate and Ripon on the 22nd January and Leeds on 23rd January. A total of 14 Volvo B5TL/Wright Gemini 3s branded in Riding Redefined livery were ordered and some of the older buses have had USB ports installed in them as spares for the route in the case a bus isn't available.
