TeamUp! for Brain & Behavior Research Foundation

TeamUp! is an online fundraising tool and a national promotional campaign to encourage the general public to fundraise independently, in a variety of ways, to support the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Visitors to the TeamUp! site have three options to participate and raise funds. They can create their own fundraising event; create an online tribute page; or sign up for TeamUp! America, a nationwide fundraising event, usually held in the latter part of each year.[1]

The mission of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is to alleviate the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that will lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research.[2]

Participation

Individuals throughout the world can participate in TeamUp! and fundraise on behalf of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Online users are directed to an online donation program that provides options to create and customize a fundraising web page that accepts online donations. Fundraising web pages can be used to present a personal story that relates to a mental illness, celebrate a special occasion, pay tribute to an individual, or advertise a fundraising event. TeamUp! participants can update their web pages as often as they like, by uploading photographs, linking to videos from YouTube, and including links to articles and other web pages. TeamUp! also connects with Facebook and Twitter.[1]

Participation in TeamUp! also includes individuals that fundraise without use of the web site and its tools.

Fundraising Options

TeamUp! participants have the option to create an event, participate in TeamUp! America, or create a tribute page. Participants who create their own community event receive support from BBRF and can post information and take donations through their own web pages and collect funds in their communities.[3]

TeamUp! America participants take part in a nationwide community fundraising event. In 2012, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation launched Kite Fest for Healthy Minds, to be held in Coney Island, NY on October 14. Kite Fest is designed to attract families of all ages to fly kites, build sand castles, and take advantage of boardwalk activities and attractions in Coney Island. Communities across the nation will be invited to fly kites and hold community events on October 14, 2012, in support of healthy minds.[4]

TeamUp! participants who choose the tribute option create a custom web page that honors, memorializes, or celebrates an individual or group. The creator must direct people to visit the tribute page to make donations or mail them in to be posted on the page.[5]

Fundraising

TeamUp! raised over $200,000 in 2011 across approximately 30 events. Donations from events in 2011 ranged from $33 to over $60,000, with all funds raised going directly to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.[6]
