Taichung County was a county in central Taiwan, the Republic of China, that surrounded but did not include Taichung. The county capital was Fengyuan. The name Taichung means "central Taiwan".

History

Taichung County was established on 26 November 1945 following the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China. On December 25, 2010, Taichung County and Taichung City merged to form a single Taichung special municipality.[1]

Administration

Taichung County controlled 3 county-controlled cities, 5 urban townships (鎮) and 13 rural townships (鄉), which, at the time of the merger with Taichung City, were converted into 21 districts of the new municipality.
