Table tennis is a popular indoor recreation sport in India, which has caught on in states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The Table Tennis Federation of India is the official sports body. India, which is currently ranked 30th in the world, has produced a single player ranked in the top 50, Sharath Kamal.[1]
India has won many medals at the Commonwealth level. The game enjoyed a rich history in India.
Soumyajit Ghosh is the current National Champion of India in Table Tennis. Some popular players in the new millennium are Chetan Baboor, Arup Basak, Soumyadeep Roy, Sourav Chakraborty, A Amalraj, Sanil Shetty, Harmeet Desai, K Shamini, Poulomi Ghatak, Mouma Das, Ankita Das, Madhurika Patkar, and others.
