Swiss Sports Personality of the Year
The Swiss Sports Personality of the Year used to be chosen annually since 1950 by the Swiss newspaper Sport. As the newspaper was discontinued in the 1990s, the winners are now chosen by Swiss journalists and TV viewers. Their results count for 50% each towards the final result and the method is debatable, since journalists' and viewers' opinions may be very different. In 2009 Roger Federer had a large lead among voters working in the media, but viewers voted for Didier Cuche, giving him the awars. Even Cuche was surprised and in his speech he apologized to Federer, mentioning "I hope he's not too angry..." Federer didn't really bother, but he did the first time this happened. In 2005 spectators voted for Thomas Lüthi, after media boosted Federer on top place.
