The National Ice Hockey League (Liga Nacional de Hockey sobre Hielo) is the Spanish league of ice hockey. Its governing body is Federación Española de Deportes de Hielo

History

Liga Nacional de Hockey Hielo was established in 1972. In the first season 1972–73, participating teams were Real Sociedad, Jaca, Valladolid, Puigcerdá, HC Madrid and CF Barcelona.[1]

Two years ago the league was composed of eight teams, but due to financial problems in almost all clubs, the league has been reduced the number of participants year after year until only five today. The clubs still competing for the championship are the ones who have more history in the championship and number of followers.
