This 28.3 km (17.6 mi) expressway is build to connect eastern side of Kuala Lumpur and also to reduced traffic jam along North–South Expressway Southern Route to Sungai Besi toll plaza and Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway to Kuala Lumpur.

Route background

The Kilometre Zero begins at UPM Interchange which connects the expressway with E2 North–South Expressway Southern Route, E18 Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway and

B13

Jalan Serdang.

History

Construction of the original 16 km (9.9 mi) expressway from Jalan Istana to UPM Interchange began in 1997, by Road Builder (M) Holdings Bhd (RBH). (In 2007, RBH was acquired by IJM Corporation Berhad). The expressway used to be a state road,

B13

and the official name was Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Sungai Besi. During construction, the status of the road was changed to a toll expressway and the route code was changed to E9. The expressway commenced tolling operation on 15 May 1999.

Closure of the Salak Jaya toll plaza (south bound) and future expansion

The toll collection at the Salak Jaya toll plaza (south bound) was abolished on 25 February 2009. To compensate with the closure, the Works Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd. Zin Mohamad announced the future expansion of the expressway to the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 near Pandan Indah, whose concession would be awarded to Besraya.[1] The 12.3 km (7.6 mi) extension would be mostly elevated.

Besraya Eastern Extension Expressway

The Besraya Eastern Extension Expressway (BEE) is an expressway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia connecting Salak South (North) interchange on the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 1 to the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 near Pandan Indah. The 12.3 km (7.6 mi) extension elevated expressway has an interchanges at Salak South, Jalan Istana, Taman Ikan Emas, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Cheras Lama, Shamelin Perkasa, MRR2 North (where Jalan Pandan Jaya intersects the MRR2), MRR2 South (where Jalan Pandan Indah intersects the MRR2), Pandan Jaya and Jalan Pandan Utama near Pandan Indah.[2] The expressway was opened to traffic on 15 April 2014.
