Sujit Meher (Odia: ସୁଜିତ୍ ମେହେର) is an Indian fashion designer, young entrepreneur and an author based in Bangalore and an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore.
Early life and education
Born and brought up in Odisha, Meher was studying to graduate in Engineering, when he decided to change his career path and applied for the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Bangalore.[1] He graduated in 2013,[2] studying in Fashion and lifestyle accessories design and also did research and project on Indian handicraft jewellery.[3] In 2012 he had helped organize the annual Odisha festival, Nuakhai, incorporating a fashion show.[3]
Career
In early 2013, Meher was appointed as designer of a Bollywood production and distribution company Eros International.[4][5]
In September 2013 he presented his first design collection with Sambalpuri handloom fabric with the theme of "Folk Fashion". At 24, he founded the "Tilottama" brand, named after his grandmother. His designs blend ikat designed fabric with cotton and silk and are known as Sambalpuri .[6] [7] He launched his second line of collections under the name of "Story of Tradition" in December 2013.[8] [9] [10] In June 2014 Meher launched another line named Noor-E-Tilottama, a range of designs for the mass market.[11]
Meher has been involved in the promotion of khadi products under the direction of the Odisha Khadi and Village Industry Board[12][13]
In March 2014 Meher was awarded young Designer-Cum-Entrepreneur for the year 2014 By GCC group.[14]
Author
In October 2015, his debut book, the realistic fiction based on his true life story Dreams Beyond Grades, chronicling his journey as a designer and entrepreneur was published and became a best-seller. His debut novel Dreams Beyond Grades, which speaks about the importance of pursuing one's dreams beyond school colleges grading and point system. [15]
