According to WHO's 2012 suicide report, France ranked #47 of 170 countries listed.[1] The overall suicide rate is 12.3 per 100,000 people[1]—higher than in Germany or United Kingdom. The suicide rate for French men is 19.3 per 100,000—three times the rate for women, 6 per 100,000 according WHO's 2012 suicide report. However, Russia, Estonia, Poland, Belgium and Finland still have higher rates.
Suicides at France Telecom captured media attention in 2009, and were blamed on the restructuring in the wake of its privatisation.[2]
