Stuart Shanker

Stuart G. Shanker DPhil, (born October 14, 1952), is a Distinguished Research Professor of Philosophy and Psychology at York University.[1] He is an acclaimed author and international speaker.[2] Some of Shanker's most notable works include: Calm, Alert, and Learning: Classroom Strategies for Self-Regulation (2012),[3] Early Years Study 2: Putting Science into Action (2007) with Dr. James Fraser Mustard and Hon. Margaret Norrie McCain,[4] Human Development in the 21st Century (2007)[5] with Alan Fogel and Barbara King, and Apes, Language and the Human Mind (1998) with Sue Savage-Rumbaugh and Talbot Taylor.[6]

Dr. Stuart Shanker is best known as Canada's leading expert in the psychophysiological theory of self-regulation.[7][8]

Education

Shanker began his university education at the University of Toronto, Ontario.[9] He won several awards while there, including a scholarship to study at the University of Oxford.[10] While studying at Oxford, he obtained a First in PPE.[11] In addition, he completed his BPhil and DPhil and was awarded the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Christ Church, Oxford.[12] After completing his research fellowship, Shanker began as an Associate Professor of Philosophy at York University where he quickly moved up the rank of full professor 3 years later.[13]
