Stina Ehrensvärd
Stina Ehrensvärd (born 1967) is a Swedish-American entrepreneur, innovator and industrial designer.[1] She is the founder and CEO of Yubico and co-inventor of the YubiKey authentication device.[2]
Biography
Ehrensvärd was born in the United States in the summer of 1967. Her father, who like her mother was an architect, was spending a year at the City University of Seattle, undertaking research on urban planning and computer graphics. The following year the family moved back to Lund in Sweden where she grew up with her three siblings. She went on to study industrial design at the Konstfack college of arts, crafts and design in Stockholm where she met her husband-to-be Jakob Ehrensvärd, an electronics wizard. The two began collaborating on a series of innovations, combining their design and computing talents before they decided to get married. They now have three children.[3]
Their first significant development was Cypak, an intelligent pharmaceutical packaging system which never took off.[3] In 2007, the couple founded Yubico, manufacturing the YubiKey authentication device for online transactions which quickly gained worldwide popularity, attracting millions of users and seven of the top ten internet companies. In 2011, the couple moved to Palo Alto in order to become part of the Silicon Valley IT scene.[2]
Stina Ehrensvärd also frequently speaks on internet identity and entrepreneurship. In 2013, she was listed in the monthly magazine Inc. as one of the "10 Women to Watch in Tech in 2013".[2]
In 2013, in connection with use of the YubiKey in a Google pilot scheme, Ehrensvärd was interviewed by the business magazine The Next Woman. When asked if there was anything she wished to share with the community, she revealed: "We women are trained in our DNA to please. I have stopped trying to please everyone, but to instead follow my dreams."[4]
