Stanley "Stan" James Mountain (July–September 1909 (age 106107)[1] — death uncertain) birth registered in Newport district, is a rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer of the 1930s, playing club level rugby union (RU) for Newport RFC, as a Centre, i.e. number 12 or 13, and playing representative level rugby league (RL) for Rugby League XIII, and Wales, and at club level for Huddersfield, as a wing, or centre, i.e. number 2 or 5, or, 3 or 4.[2]

Stan Mountain won caps for Wales (RL) while at Huddersfield in 1935.[3]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Stan Mountain played Right-wing, i.e. number 2, in Huddersfield's 8-11 defeat by Castleford in the 1935 Challenge Cup final during the 1934–35 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 4 May 1935.[4][5]

County Cup final appearances

Stan Mountain played centre, i.e. number 3, in Huddersfield's 8-14 defeat by Leeds in the 1937 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1937–38 season at Belle Vue, Wakefield on Saturday 30 October 1937.

Genealogical information

Stan Mountain's marriage to Vera Lodge was registered during October→December 1941 in Huddersfield district.[6] They had children; Margaret Mountain (birth registered during January→March 1940 (age 7576) in Huddersfield district, Anne Mountain (birth registered during July→September 1943 (age 7273) in Huddersfield district), Stuart Mountain (birth registered during January→March 1945 (age 7071) in Huddersfield district), Kathryn Mountain (birth registered during October→December 1946 (age 6970) in Newport district).
