St. Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) is an engineering college in Vamanjoor, Mangalore, India. Being a unit of the Catholic Diocese of Mangalore, it is the only Catholic engineering institute in Karnataka. SJEC is affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University in Belgaum and approved by the AICTE, New Delhi and Karnataka State Government. The college is believed to have an excellent standard of teaching along with good social interactions.[1]
Established in 2002, it offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering, Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Computer Application.
The college was inaugurated on the 19th of March 2003, on the feast of the Patron St. Joseph, by Cardinal Ivan Dias of Mumbai and presided over by Dr. Ignatius Pinto, Archbishop of Bangalore.
History
The college was established in the year 2002 as St. Joseph Engineering College by Diocese of Mangalore under the guidance of Aloysius Paul D'Souza by Fr Valerian D’Souza.[2]
Campus
St. Joseph Engineering College campus spread over an area of 25 acres (100,000 m2), is located at Vamanjoor 10 km to the east of Mangalore City centre, which is well connected by train, road and air. City and service buses run every 5 minutes from the city centre to the college campus along the National Highway towards Moodbidri via Kulshekar.
There are 3 Academic Blocks in the college,which house all the departments. The Central Library of the college is situated in Academic Block 2.All the books are bar coded and managed using smart card system.The library has book count of 35000 volumes with 8900 titles on Engineering, Management and Humanities and subscribes to 120 technical journals, 3152 online journals and 8 online databases.[3]
