Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya, born Frank Morales in New York City in 1962 or 1963, is a Guru and Acharya of Sanatana Dharma. He is the President and Acharya of the International Sanatana Dharma Society, a world-wide movement dedicated to teaching Dharma spirituality,[1] and the director of the Center for the Study of Dharma and Civilization.[2]
Background
Sri Acharya, a European-American of Italian and Spanish descent, was born in New York City in either 1962 or 1963.[3][4][5] At 14, he visited the first Hindu temple built in North America, the Ganapati Temple in Flushing, Queens. It was at this time that he decided to dedicate his life to Sanatana Dharma. He lived the highly disciplined life of a celibate Hindu monk for six years in several ashrams throughout New York, as well as in the Bay Area, London and India.
He was formally ordained in India as an orthodox Vedic brahmana (a spiritual teacher and Hindu priest) in 1986 by his guru, the world famous Vaishnava Acharya Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhara Swami.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Theology from Loyola University Chicago in 1994. In December 2002, he earned a Ph.D. in Languages and Cultures of Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a focus on Religious Studies and Philosophy of Religion. He served briefly as an Adjunct Professor with Antioch University. He eventually left academia to devote himself to spiritual teaching and to the preservation of the tradition of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism). He was formally appointed as the Resident Acharya (Spiritual Preceptor) of the Hindu Temple of Nebraska (2007–2009), the first time in American history that a Hindu temple had ever made such an appointment.
Controversy
He is published by Arktos media Ltd.[6][7] and has been called an egotisical Guru.[8][9] He has also been interviewed on Counter-Currents radio by Robert Stark.[10] He has been published by Troy Southgate's, Black Front Press.[11][12]
He has been accused of being a fake and promoting Christianity through the back door.[13][14]
He coined the term, "radical universalism" (the belief that all religions and teachings are essentially the same.), which 'Hindus are frequent to embrace'.[15][16][17]
