Peterborough railway line

The Spalding railway line was a railway in South Australia which branched from the Peterborough railway line at Riverton and passed through the Clare Valley to Spalding. The railway opened from Riverton to Clare in 1918 and was later extended to Spalding from 1922. The last train was in 1978. The line was formally closed following the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires.

The railway line is now closed and removed. The 19 kilometres (12 mi) section from Riverton through Rhynie to Auburn has been replaced by the Rattler Rail Trail. The next 33 kilometres (21 mi) section from Auburn through the Clare Valley to Clare and beyond to the former Barinia siding is the Riesling Trail.[1]
