Soziedad Alkoholika, commonly abbreviated to S.A., is a crossover thrash band from the Basque Country in Spain. They were founded in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 1988.[1] They usually talk against militarism, fascism, racism, sexism, rage, decadence, monarchy and others themes like these in their lyrics.
Over these years S.A. has become a polemical and successful band with a great recognition in the underground Spanish punk and metal scenes, as well as in various Latin American countries.
Since 2002 the band has been accused by a Terrorism Victims Association and right-wing political parties of supporting ETA,[2][3] due to their lyrics in a few songs by the Asociación de Víctimas del Terrorismo (AVT), but they were absolved. This propaganda caused them to be banned from playing in some places (for 3 years in Madrid).
Soziedad Alkoholika denounces "repression" suffered by the Basque people with the end of "the right of self determination", advocates in its lyrics the disappearance of the Ertzaintza, calls for the independence of the Basque Country, but also attacks scientists using animals as guinea pigs for research and analyzes the Middle East Conflict insulting Jews involved in assassinations, torture and senseless killings.[1]
