South Central High School is located in Winterville, North Carolina, and is the sixth high school in Pitt County's school system.
The school was built on June 30, 2002 to ease the student load of J.H. Rose and D.H. Conley.. The entire project cost approximately 28 million dollars. The school first Principal was Mr.Art Rouse and Assistant Principal Mrs.Singleton. The rival high schools DH Conley and J.H. Rose as well as the feeder middle schools A.G. Cox and CM Eppes helped with the naming of the school.
In addition to our uniform colors of white, black, navy, grey, and burgundy shirts and black, white, and navy pants we have other guidelines for our dress code. This includes no bandanas, no sunglasses, no spaghetti strap shirts. This also includes no mesh fabric or anything revealing such as low cut shirts or shorts skirts and shorts. During prom some of these guidelines do not apply. You can wear halter or strapless dresses. However, there are still some restrictions that apply. Dress cannot be more than 4 inches short above the knee, slits in dress cannot be more than 5-6 inches above the knee, and back of dress must be 4 inches above the hipbone. If these guidelines are not followed administrators reserve the right to deny entry to students.
South Central has a strong 4A athletic department, and are rivals with D.H.Conley. The sports department includes: Junior Varsity and Varsity teams of both men's and women's basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, cross country, track and field in addition to volleyball, wrestling, baseball, softball and cheerleading.
South Central offers many classes that other schools do not, such as Japanese and a Health Sciences Program. South Central acquired a mascot during the 2011-2012 school year known as "Flash the Falcon."
The Music department consists of classes such as band, orchestra, dance, and theatre. The band program is a Superior ranked band at the Musical Performance Assessment at Havelock High School. The dance studio puts on performances every fall and spring. The theatre studio also performs skits and larger scale dramas throughout the course of the school year.
Many subdivisions in both Greenville and Winterville fall in the districts for South Central High School, including but not limited to: Westhaven, Cedar Ridge, Irish Creek, Starhill Farms, Signature Place, Ashley Meadows, Augusta Trails, Barefoot Landing, Barrington Fields, Baywood, Brook Hollow, Brighton Place and Cantebury.
