Sons of Kemet are a British jazz group formed in 2011, made up of Shabaka Hutchings, Oren Marshall, Seb Rochford and Tom Skinner. The group uses saxophone and clarinet (Hutchings), tuba (Marshall, Cross), and two drummers to make their music and features a mixture of jazz, rock, Caribbean folk and African music.[1]
Sons of Kemet won 'Best Jazz Act' at the 2013 MOBO Awards.[2]
On 9 September 2013, Sons of Kemet released their debut album Burn, which received a variety of awards and nominations, including the Arts Desk 'Album of the Year 2013' and a nomination for Gilles Peterson's Album of the Year. Their next album Lest We Forget What We Came Here To Do received the same nomination for the year 2015.
They were featured on BBC 2's Maida Vale Session on 12 November 2013.[3]
Producers such as Micachu, Vince Vella and Ben Marc have remixed various songs from Burn.
