Sonic Automotive, Inc. (NYSE: SAH) is a Fortune 500 company based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is one of the largest automotive retailers in the United States. The company's founder and CEO is O Bruton Smith, who is also the founder and CEO of Speedway Motorsports (NYSE: TRK). [2] Sonic ranked 309th on the 2014 Fortune 500 list.[3] The company also is a member of the Russell 2000 Index.[4]

Sonic Automotive operates in 14 states with more than 100 dealerships representing 25 different brands of automobiles.These dealerships provide numerous services, including sales of new and used cars; sales of replacement parts; vehicle maintenance, warranty, paint, and collision repair services; and arrangement of extended warranty contracts, financing, and insurance for the company's customers.[5]

History

Sonic Automotive was launched as a public company in November 1997 by O. Bruton Smith. At the time, the company had 20 stores, representing 15 brands and several hundred employees.[5]

Sonic Automotive owns EchoPark Automotive, a used-car dealer based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
