Smithson, Indiana
Smithson is an unincorporated community in White County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.[1]
History
Smithson was originally called Wheeler, and under the latter name was laid out when the railroad was extended to that point.[2] The present name is derived from Bernard G. Smith, a Civil War veteran and early settler.[2] Smithson was the name of the local post office.[2] The Smithson post office was established in 1880, and remained in operation until 1931.[3]
