Smash (Spanish band)

Smash were an Andalusian blues rock and psychedelic band formed by the sitar and guitar player Gualberto García and singer and bassist Julio Matito (1946-1979) in 1967, which was active up to 1973. Gualberto introduced flamenco and Indian touches into the music.[1][2]

The group broke up in 1973 after Matito left to pursue a solo career, with increasing engagement in politics. Matito released the single "Al Despertar" in 1974, recording a banned and left-wing album Salud! PSOE, which had to be pressed on vinyl in Germany and smuggled into Spain, and writing the Socialist anthem for the 1977 elections, before his early death in a car accident in 1979.
