In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, an olive slime is a type of ooze, and is closely associated with the slime creature.
Publication history
The olive slime and the slime creature first appear in the adventure module The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (1982),[1] and later appear in the original Monster Manual II (1983).[2]
The olive slime and olive slime creature appear in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons for the Greyhawk setting in the adventure module Greyhawk Ruins (1990),[3] and are reprinted under the "ooze/slime/jelly" heading in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[4]
The olive slime, the small slime creature, the medium slime creature, and the large slime creature appear in third edition in Dungeon #132 (March 2006).
Description
The olive slime is a strain of monstrous plant life akin to green slime. Contact with olive slime causes the creature to exude a numbing poison, allowing it to spread itself over the body area of its victim, sending parasitic tendrils to feed on the fluids of the host. The host begins to change, its mind being affected by secretions of the olive slime, so that the mind's main concern becomes to feed, protect, and aid the growth. The host begins a metamorphosis into a vegetable creature after several days, as the olive slime gradually replaces skin and muscle tissue. Once metamorphosis is complete, the host becomes a slime creature, which is able to spread olive slime to other creatures.
