Slim Jesus (born April 10, 1997)[1][2] is an American rapper from Hamilton, Ohio. The music video for his breakthrough single, "Drill Time", quickly brought him attention online after it was released in August 2015.
Biography
Slim Jesus was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio. His name was given by his friends who started calling him "Swag Jesus", over time it transformed into "Slim Jesus", since he was skinny.[3]
He first released "Drill Time" to his SoundCloud account on July 20, 2015[4] and then the music video for it to his YouTube channel on August 18, 2015.[5] He has been seriously rapping for a few months and has been making music for a few years prior to "Drill Time".[3] The song is an example of drill music, a trap subgenre with Chicago origins. However, because he is not from Chicago, "Drill Time" can't be considered drill music. In the video he can be seen brandishing guns along with others and refers to guns and the use of firearms in the lyrics.[3][6] It opened him up to controversy since he seemingly lacked street credibility.[7] He talked about the controversy regarding his musical content in an interview with VladTv, saying, "That shit’s dope. If I rapped about driving around in a fucking car and fucking listening to country music nobody would give a fuck about that shit. I make music about some shit because it sounds cool. I like making music. I make cool music. Like I already said, I’m not out here claiming that I actually kill people... I make music that I wanna listen to, the type of shit I listen to."[6]
On September 17, 2015 he released a second music video for his single, "Buck Buck."[8]
He embarked on his first tour, Young & Ignorant, on December 2, 2015, performing at venues across Canada and the United States.[9]
