Slavica Ecclestone (born 25 May 1958)[2] is a British-Croatian[3] former model, and former wife of Formula One racing CEO Bernie Ecclestone. She is presently both the wealthiest Croat and the wealthiest person born in Croatia ever.

Early life

She was born Slavica Radić (Croatian pronunciation: [slâʋit͡sa rǎːdit͡ɕ]), in Rijeka, Croatia in 1958.[4]

Career

The young Slavica worked as an international fashion model, modelling for a number of leading clients, including designer Armani. While working on a Formula One promotional event for Armani at the 1982 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, she met Bernie Ecclestone.[5][6][7]

Bernie pursued Slavica despite the 28-year age difference, the language barrier (she spoke Croatian and Italian, he spoke only English), and their difference in height. At 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m), Slavica was nearly a foot taller than her suitor, Ecclestone being only 5 ft 2½ in (1.59 m) tall.[8]

Slavica was patron of the British-Croatian Society in London.[9]

Personal life

From her marriage, Slavica has two daughters, Tamara (1984) and Petra (1988); and four grandchildren.[10]

In November 2008 Slavica filed for divorce after 23 years of marriage.[11] The divorce was granted on 11 March 2009.[12] She topped the Sunday Times’ Rich List in the "richest divorcees" category after she was awarded an estimated £740 million.[13]
