Skånevik Church (Norwegian: Skånevik kyrkje) is a parish church in Etne municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Skånevik. The church is part of the Skånevik parish in the Sunnhordland deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in 1900 using plans by the architect Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff. The church seats about 400 people. It was consecrated on 31 August 1900.[1][2]
History
The first church at Skånevik was built some time before the year 1340. That church was a stave church. That church was in use until 1683 when it was torn down and replaced by a timber-framed church. That church was built by Olle Bysemb and Erich Fyllingsnes. In 1900 this (second) church was torn down after a new church was built a very short distance from the old one. This 3rd church is still in use today.[3]
