Siarhei Rutenka, also Sergej Rutenka (Belarusian: Сяргей Рутэнка; born 29 September 1981) is a Belarusian handball player. He is currently playing for Lekhwiya Handball Team. Besides Belarusian citizenship in 2003 he acquired also Slovenian citizenship. In January, 2008, he received the Spanish nationality,.[2] His preferred position is outside left, but he is also capable of playing as the pivot and playmaker. He came to prominence while playing for the Slovenian club Celje Pivovarna Laško and earlier for RK Gorenje. He previously plays for FC Barcelona in Spain. The club acquired him for €1 million.[3] His hobbies include bowling and films.
Rutenka was the top goalscorer at the 2006 European Men's Handball Championship, representing Slovenia. Currently he is back to representing native Belarus. In 2013 was included into the list of three candidates for the title of the best left-back in the world.[4]
He is the older brother of handball player Dzianis Rutenka.
