Show Me The Money (SMTM) is a South Korean television rap competition series held annually. First held in 2012, Show Me the Money has grown in popularity through its four seasons.[1]

The concept of the show is to select a group of promising rappers from open auditions and whittle down that number through various assignments, with contestant survival dependent on the "producers," a group of experienced rappers who also serve as mentors. Eventually the rappers are divided into small teams headed by those producers. From there each contestant will face a different team's rapper in head-to-head single-elimination rounds where survival in the competition is dependent on votes from a live studio audience. In the third and fourth seasons, there was also a "Revival Round" in which contestants previously eliminated had a chance to continue in the competition.

Season 1 (2012)

The first season of SMTM was won by Loco, now signed to AOMG. This season comprised mostly amateur and underground rappers.[2][3] The producers of the season were MC Sniper and the group Garion.[4]

Season 2 (2013)

The second season of SMTM split the contestants into two hip hop crews. The contestants were more well-known and established within the hip hop community, notably including LE of idol girl group EXID, Jucy of idol girl group EvoL, Mad Clown, and Swings of crew Uptown. The winner of the second season was Soul Dive (소울다이브).[4]

Season 3 (2014)

The third season of SMTM saw a number of prominent Korean hip hop figures' participation. The producers split themselves loosely along the lines of larger Korean hip hop labels, leading to "Team YG," Team Illionaire," "Team Brand New Music," and "Team YDG". Previous contestant Swings returned as a producer. The season was won by Bobby of iKON,[5] together with his producers Dok2 and The Quiett of Team Illionaire.

Season 4 (2015)

Mnet's fourth season of SMTM features YG judges Jinusean and Tablo, San E and Verbal Jint from Brand New Music, AOMG judges Jay Park and Loco (first season winner came back as a producer), and judges Zico and Paloalto (Hi-Lite Records). Over 7000 contestants auditioned this year with more idol rappers, most notably, Song Min-ho of Winner, and veterans such as Basick and P-Type. Many of the contestants from Season 3 came back as well. The winner of this season was Basick with his producers team San E and Verbal Jint from Brand New Music.
