Shohreh Moavenian (born 7 October 1965), also known by her stage name Shora, is an Iranian singer and songwriter who lives in Vancouver, Canada. She mainly sings Rumi's poems, and her music is mostly composed by Kaveh Yaghmaei with whom she works.[1] Her music style incorporates elements from both pop and traditional Persian music.

Career

Moavenian was born in Mashhad, Iran. She started her singing career as a child, performing at TV programs for children in Khorasan, Mashhad in 1975. After she had immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, she worked for three years at Parvaz Film (2005 _ 2008), an Iranian multicultural TV network, performing for children as a puppeteer and story teller as well as a sound effects maker.

As a female vocalist striving to create a stronger impression by using new rhythms and a new combination of traditional and modern music, her aim to sing the poems of Rumi is an innovation in Persian music.

Music

She has produced two albums so far, Molana & Shora (2008) and Molana & Shora 2 (2009).[2] She is expected to release her third album, Molana & Shora 3, in the near future.

Her video clip "Ashegi" was shot at Tehran Metro and presented by Radiojavan.[3]
