Shiojiri (塩尻市 Shiojiri-shi) is a city located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Its name literally means "the end of salt" or "salt butt".

As of February 1, 2006, the city has an estimated population of 68,231 and a population density of 235.17 persons per km². The total area is 290.18 km².

Shiojiri is a minor transport hub for central Japan, as it sits at the junction of road and rail routes to Nagano, Nagoya, and Tokyo. The Chūō Main Line, Chūō Expressway, and Nagano Expressway all run through Shiojiri.

Tourist attractions

Shiojiri is the location of the Hiraide ruins, one of the three largest ancient ruins in Japan. Artifacts from the Jōmon period through the Heian period have been discovered there, as well as the remains of 47 ancient dwellings.
