Shin Jimin (born January 8, 1991; Hangul: 신지민; hanja: 申智珉 , better known as simply Jimin, is a South Korean idol singer and rapper. She is best known for being the leader and main rapper of the South Korean girl group AOA under FNC Entertainment.

Biography

Jimin was born on January 8, 1991, in Seoul, South Korea.[1] From her second year of middle school to her first year of high school, she studied abroad for a Chinese language course for two years. While attending the Chinese language school, she also attended a practical music school.[2] She knows how to play the guitar, the harmonica, and the piano.

On July 30, 2012, Jimin made her debut as a member of AOA on Mnet's M! Countdown with their debut single album, Angels' Story and the title track "Elvis".[3] AOA has released one full album, three EPs and four singles as of September 2015.[4]

She wrote the rap for their single "Moya".[5]

Solo career

On January 12, 2015, it was revealed that Jimin will be part of a variety show called Unpretty Rapstar, a spin-off of the program Show Me The Money. Unpretty Rapstar is a female rappers survival program. The show consists of a single-elimination competition through rap performances.[6] She is also a cast member in the variety show Off to School from 2015.[7]

During Unpretty Rapstar, Jimin released a few collaboration singles such as "T4SA" with MC Meta and Nuck.[8] She also released "Good Start" with Seulong which was produced by Verbal Jint and which peaked at two on the Gaon Singles Chart. [9][10] Her rap battle song "Puss" with rapper Iron during the semifinals was also released,[11] peaking at number 1 on the Gaon Singles Chart.

On April 23, 2015, FNC Entertainment announced that the members of the 'N Project' were Jimin and N.Flying's J.Don (formerly known as Seunghyub).[12] The MV teaser for 'GOD' was released on April 24, 2015.[13] The full song and the music video was released on April 28, 2015.[14]

On April 28, 2015, it was revealed that Jimin had been chosen as a new model for coffee 'K’hawah' together with rappers Iron and Rap Monster.[15]

On September 12, 2015, was revealed that Jimin will be part of Let's Go! Dream Team Chinese Version together with Chanmi.[16]
