Shikotan District, Hokkaido

Shikotan (色丹郡 Shikotan-gun) is a nominal district that is part of Nemuro Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It covers Shikotan Island, which is claimed by Japan and Russia. As of August 15, 1945, it had a population of 1,038. Although claimed by Japan, it is de facto administered by Russia.

Russian administration
Russia administers the island as part of the South Kurils district of Sakhalin Oblast, administering all of the two villages.
