Shelarwadi Caves

Shelarwadi Caves has 6 Buddhist Caves at Shelarwadi situated 24 km north-west of Pune near town of Dehu Road, India. The caves are carved in first century B.C., are very simple. The Chaitya has since converted into Shiva Temple.[1] These caves are ancient than Ajanta Caves.[2]

There are two inscriptions on the caves; one describes about donation made by lay Buddhist and other describes donation by nun, daughter of Sangha and her disciple.[1]
