Shaye Lynne Haver Shane Lynne Haver is from Copperas Cove, Texas and is 25 years old.[1] Haver graduated high school inTexas in 2008 and was a cross country runner.[1] Haver followed in her father’s footsteps and became a pilot of attack helicopters. Her father also served as a career Army aviator who flew Apaches.[2] Shaye Lynne Haver is one of the two first women, along with Kristen Marie Griest, to ever graduate from the US Army Ranger School, which occurred on 21 August 2015. Ranger School is an intense 61-day combat leadership course oriented toward small-unit tactics. It has been called "the most physically and mentally demanding leadership school the Army has to offer".[3][4][5] Haver and Griest have both received tons of criticism being female and finishing the Army’s Ranger school. A lot of people believe that the program was easier for the women. Being female, in a mostly male program brought a lot of questions and pressure. Cmd. Sgt. Major Curtis Arnold said that the women had extra motivation to graduate “ because you know everyone is watching. And truthfully there are probably a few folks who want you to fail. So you’ve got to put out 110 percent.”.[2] Haver and Griest both said that they felt extra pressure to succeed because they want to prove that women can endure the same stress and pressure that men do when training. With all of the questions arising about the legitimacy of the completion of the program, many commanders and generals have spoken out. Scott Miller, the Maneuver Center of Excellence commanding general at Fort Benning, said he vowed before the program began that there “would be no change to the standards—and there weren’t “( CBSnews). Haver and Griest are described as “tough soldiers” by Cmd. Sgt. Major Curtis Arnold ( CBSnews). He also said that a decade ago he would have doubted a women could pass the rigorous course(CBSnews). Haver and Griest have both came a long way and have paved the for the future of women who are interested in the rigorous training of Army Ranger School.

Military career

Haver graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2012.[6] She is currently an Apache Attack Helicopter pilot. Haver graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 2012.[1] Ranger School is designed to build elite leaders, they withstood fearsome weather, exhausting hikes, sleepless nights and simulated combat patrols.[3] Haver was among a group of 20 women who qualified to attend the first gender- integrated Ranger School beginning April 20 and was one of the two to complete it to date.[3]

Everything that participants in the Army Ranger School endure is to test their reaction time, teamwork, and tenacity under fire[3]

Haver received a certificate of completion and was awarded and authorized to wear the Ranger Tab. Haver will return to her unit, she will still not be allowed to try out for the elite 75th Ranger because the special operations unit remains closed to women.[2]
