Shaun Francis (born 2 October 1986) is a Jamaican footballer who currently plays for San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer.
Career
College and amateur
Francis attended Glenmuir High School in his native Jamaica, where he was an All-Island, Ben Francis Cup, and Dá Costa Cup Champion, as well as a member of an All-Conference Team.[1] He displayed exemplary skills for Calabar High at the Pepsi, Colts and Manning Cup levels. He played four years of college soccer at Lindsey Wilson College, where he netted 7 goals in 61 appearances for the Blue Raiders.[2][3] Francis served as captain of the 2009 NAIA National Championship, Lindsey Wilson soccer team.
During his college years Francis also played with both Indiana Invaders[4] and the Thunder Bay Chill[5] in the USL Premier Development League.
Professional
Francis was drafted in the fourth round (63rd overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Columbus Crew.[6] He was signed by the Crew in March 2010 to fill one of the club's four developmental roster spots.[7] In July 2010, Francis made his season debut in the US Open Cup. He made his MLS league debut versus New York Red Bulls on 17 July.
Francis was waived by Columbus on 27 June 2012.[8] In February 2013, Francis trialed with Philadelphia Union.[9] On 27 March 2013 Francis signed with USL Pro club Charlotte Eagles.[10]
At the end of the 2013 USL season Francis signed with Chicago Fire. At the conclusion of 2013, Chicago declined its contract option on Francis and he entered the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Francis was selected in stage two of the draft by San Jose Earthquakes and he signed with the club in January 2014.[11]
International
Francis earned his first cap for Jamaican national team squad during a friendly game against Trinidad & Tobago on 10 October 2010.[12] Francis scored his first senior national team goal in a 2–0 victory over Guadeloupe in the 2010 Caribbean Championship on 29 November 2010.
