Shakardara

Shakaradara is a village in district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is renowned for its Oil and gas reservoirs. The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has recently, successfully explored four oil fields in the area.

From January 2010 onwards, sizeable reserves of oil and gas have been found in Shakardara with production of 1,200 barrels per day (190 m3/d) of oil and around 5 million cubic feet (140,000 m3) of gas. Drilling of wells is being conducted offshore near Gwadar on Mekran coast. [1]

Controversy

A petition seeking end to gas supply to Punjab was registered in the Peshawar High Court. PHC seeks comments from government, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Pakistan.

Climate

The climate of Shakardara is very hot during summer and cold during winter.Hotest months are May,June,July and August.In summer,the temperature may exceeds above 40 degree celsius.But weather changes from October up till February.The winter season is however, very pleasant and frigid.Monsoon rains are received from May to October.August is the rainiest month.The winter rains occurs from November to April.

Languages

Pashto is the common language which is locally understood and spoken.Urdu being the national language is also understood.The most notable tribes are Khattak,Bangash and Syeds.
