Shahad is a town in Thane district in Maharashtra state in India. It is located 60 km from Mumbai.[1]

The term "Shahad" is derived from Urdu word "Shah Had" "Shah" related to Mughals and "Had" means Border. Kalyan was developed under Mughal empire. Once "Shahad" comprised a large area which included "Mothe Shahad", "Shahad Gaothan Koliwada", and "Dhakate shahad".

"Shahad" is home to communities of fishing colonies which are known as "Shahad Koliwada".

There are large industrial complexes, such as the one owned by Century Rayon which was built by the Birla family. This area typically classified as a "developing area." Shahad is located close to Kalyan, Vithalwadi, Ulhasnagar, Mohone, Ambivli, Titwala, Vasind and Murbad. Waldhuni River flows through shahad.

NH222 Mumbai-Nanded-Adlilabad flies over Shahad Railway Station. Shahad Railway Station splits Shahad into two - a) Shahad East, which belongs to Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (Ulhasnagar Sector 1) and Shahad West, which belongs to Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation. .

There is a large market of "marble" in shahad west area. Hotel "sapna", "Balaji lodging and Boarding", 'Patidar Bhavan" marriage Hall and "Patel low price super market" are some of the landmarks in the Shahad West area. Now many residential complexes have come up in the vicinity and many are being built in the Shahad west area. Birla college is also near from shahad railway station.

Shahad West was one of the worst affected areas during the 2005 Mumbai Floods. There was a wide spread damage to properties and it took several days for things to return to normalcy.

Reaching Shahad

Shahad railway station is on the Central Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway. You can also reach Shahad from Kalyan station via autorickshaw. Shahad is developing very fast from being a village to an Urban town. Nirmal Lifestyles "Kalyan Lifestyle City" which is just 4 km from Shahad, makes shahad a good real estate investment destination. Nav Ambika Nagar, Gurudarshan Tower, Madhusudhan Tower, Happy Home, Krishna Apartments, matru bhakti and matru sneha are some the residential complexes in the vicinity.


Birla Mandir located in Shahad is known to attract tourists from all over Mumbai. Portions of famous films such as Suhaag, Prem granth, Tere Naam were shot in this temple. GOAL MAIDAN on the east side of Shahad station (comes under Ulhasnagar-1) is another popular area. There are several markets near GOAL MAIDAN which attract a lot of shoppers from the nearby area.
