Sekolah Menengah Atas Kristen PENABUR Gading Serpong, often shortened to SMAK PENABUR Gading Serpong, is a Christian private high school located in Gading Serpong, Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. It is organized by the BPK PENABUR Jakarta Foundation. The school provides year ten to year twelve programs as implemented nationally in Indonesia. No acceleration class is available in the school but there is an International Classes program. The school has two programs, one being the regular senior high school program and the other the Brilliant Class program for academically gifted children. This school used to be known as SMAK 6 PENABUR but the name was changed because its location is outside Jakarta.
Brilliant Class
The Brilliant Class[1] is a program for gifted students in science. They are taught in accordance with both the Indonesian national curriculum and the University of Cambridge International Examinations curriculum. They are trained to compete in national and international competitions, especially in science majors. The program was set up as a result of a collaboration between BPK PENABUR and the Surya Institute, an organization established by the Indonesian scientist Professor Yohanes Surya. The teachers for the Brilliant Class are more highly qualified than those that teach the regular classes. They are mostly recruited from lecturers at the University of Indonesia and come from Jakarta and its surroundings. Teachers for the regular classes also teach non-science subjects in the Brilliant Class.
Subjects taught in this program are mainly science and include mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry, but other social science and languages are also taught as minor subjects.
