Sean Fitzgerald Love (born September 6, 1968 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania) is a former American professional football player who played offensive guard for three seasons in the National Football League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers.
Early years
Love attended Marian Catholic High School. He accepted a scholarship from Penn State University where he was recruited to play on the defense, before being converted to the offensive line.[1]
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
Love was selected in the tenth round (264th overall) of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He was waived on August 12.
New York Giants
He was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants.[2] He was cut on August 26, 1991.[3]
Buffalo Bills
On July 6, 1992, he was signed by the Buffalo Bills.[4] He was released on October 21 from the practice squad.[5] He was re-signed in 1993, but was released before the season started.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (first stint)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed him off waivers on August 31, 1993.[6] He made his debut in the NFL that year and spent two seasons with the team before being waived on August 22, 1995.[7]
Carolina Panthers
He joined the expansion Carolina Panthers on September 6, 1995, for their inaugural season.[8] That year he played in a career high 11 games mainly on special teams and made the only start of his professional career.[9] He was released on August 18, 1996.[10]
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (second stint)
On January 2, 1997, he signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[11] He was cut on August 18.[12]
New York Jets
Love was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets, before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles a few days later in exchange for past considerations.[13]
Philadelphia Eagles
Although he was cut before the start of the 1997 season, he was later brough back in November but wasn't activated for a game.[14] He was re-signed in 1998, but was released in August.[15]
