Sean Esbjörn-Hargens

Sean Esbjörn-Hargens (born 1973) is an integral theorist associated with Ken Wilber's integral approach. He is a founding member of Integral Institute. Esbjorn-Hargens is a professor of Integral Studies at John F. Kennedy University. He has made substantial contributions to the creation of the fields of integral ecology, integral education, and integral research.

Career

Esbjörn-Hargens has worked to establish Integral Theory as a legitimate academic field of discourse by creating two master's degree programs at John F. Kennedy University based on the AQAL model (one in Integral Psychology and one in Integral Theory) and one at Fielding Graduate University in Organizational Management and Development.

He has published more than a dozen articles in academic journals, founded the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice, and co-authored the first academic textbook devoted to application of the Integral model: Integral Ecology: Uniting Multiple Perspectives on Nature (2009). In addition, he co-founded a biennial academic conference that focuses on Integral Theory[1] and founded the Integral Research Center, which supports graduate students doing mixed-methods research using the Integral model.

He is a practitioner of both Tibetan Buddhism (Shangpa Kagyu linage) and A.H. Almaas’ Diamond Approach.
