Scratch21 is a virtual pop punk band created by freelance voice-over actor and musician Blake Swift in 2014.

History

Formation and Scratch21 (2014)

The band debuted in February 2014 with a music video for their debut single, "Sorry Jack". The music video was released on February 15, 2014, and as of August 22nd, 2015, has gained more than one million views on YouTube. Swift also entered the song in the EZDrummer 2 Songwriting Competition, and "Sorry Jack" was picked as the winner in September 2014. Swift then started posting snippets of new songs on the project's Facebook page, hinting at a forthcoming album. Swift then released another single, "The Rhyme", a song about Swift's experiences with bullying, on July 3, 2014. The song's original lyric video on Swift's personal channel, ShadyVox, was privated and moved to the band's official YouTube channel, and the reposted video has gained over ten thousand views. Swift then announced that he was working on a physical album of around five to six songs. The official album art was announced on October 4, 2014. The band's debut EP was released on December 23, 2014, as a digital download from most online music stores, and on the SwiftSound Studios Bandcamp.

Generations and arrival of Cooper, Riley, and Ed (2015)

Swift announced in April 2015 that the band would have another EP out by the end of 2015. He then began to tease the EP by posting more clips of songs that would be featured. On May 20, 2015, the untitled artwork for the EP was released. Swift also announced that "Jack" would be returning on the EP, which was posted alongside a piece of artwork showing Scratch hungover in a bathroom, with the words "Jack was here" written next to him. On June 20, Swift announced that he was no longer the lone member of Scratch21, and he stated the band would be expanding by three members. On July 11, the three new members were announced, with their names being Cooper, Riley, and Ed. No last names were given for the new members. The same day, the band announced the name and now-titled artwork for their second EP, titled Generations. Tweets from the band's Twitter profile discussed a new topic of the lead singer Matt. Fans were unsure if Swift would continue to provide vocals for the band he founded last year, or if he has simply changed his band alias from "Scratch", the latter being more likely, since he still promoted the band, and Matt's character is the same as Scratch's, being a lion. The band released a new song on December 10, 2015, which was a cover of blink-182's "Asthenia". The rumor of Swift leaving the band was put to rest upon the release, as his voice is heard singing the song. The band began showing off animated versions of the band's characters, and on February 10, 2016, the band announced a new music video would be out sometime that week. The song playing in the background of the preview clip is their cover of "Asthenia" by blink-182.[1]

Musical Style

Scratch21 refer to themselves as "Pop Punk activists" on their Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages. Many fans compare their sound to that of blink-182 and Green Day
