Scott Weight (born 3 April 1987) is an English footballer who plays for Ashford Town (Middlesex). He began his career at Brentford, for whom he made one professional appearance before dropping into non-league football upon his release in 2005. Weight joined Ashford Town (Middlesex) in 2006, held the captaincy and was one of the club's longest serving players before his departure in 2014. He returned the following year.
Playing career
Brentford
Palmer began his career as a youth at Brentford, joining the club's Centre Of Excellence at the age of 10.[1] His maiden call into the first team squad came for a Football League Trophy first round match against Milton Keynes Dons on 28 September 2004.[2] Manager Martin Allen selected a side mostly composed of players from the youth team, including Ryan Peters, Sean Hillier, Josh Lennie, Karleigh Osborne, Darius Charles, Jamie Palmer and Luke Muldowney.[2] Assigned the number 39 shirt, Muldowney made his professional debut in the match, coming off the bench as a substitute for Ryan Peters after 82 minutes of the 3-0 defeat.[2] It was Weight's only involvement for the first team and he was released in the summer of 2005, having made just one appearance for the club.[2]
Hampton & Richmond Borough
Weight signed for Isthmian League Premier Division side Hampton & Richmond Borough in the summer of 2005.[1] He made only one league appearance for the club, coming on as an injury time substitute for Francis Quarm in a 2-0 win over Hendon on 27 August.[3][4]
Ashford Town (Middlesex)
Weight joined Southern League Division One West side Ashford Town (Middlesex) during the 2005/06 season, making four league appearances in February 2006.[4] Following promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division, Weight made 12 appearances during the 2006/07 season[5] and helped the Tangerines win the Isthmian League Cup, the first silverware of his career. He had a good run in the team and made 24 appearances and scored one goal during the 2007/08 season.[6] Weight made only 12 appearances during the 2008/09 season,[7] but won the Surrey Senior Cup with the team. Weight made 35 appearances[8] and was Ashford Town Player Of Year in 2009/10 season,[9] though his campaign ended on a sour note after the Tangerines suffered relegation to the Southern League Division One Central. Weight made sparing appearances during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, due to work commitments, but won the Aldershot Senior Cup with the team. He was fully available during the 2012/13 season, racking up 39 appearances and scoring 2 goals.[10] In a poor 2013/14 season (which saw the Tangerines relegated to the Combined Counties League Premier Division with a bottom-place finish), Weight won the Players' Player Of The Year award.[11] He departed the club after the season.[12]
Egham Town
In the summer of 2014, Weight joined Southern League Division One Central side Egham Town.[12] He made just seven appearances during the opening month of the 2014–15 season,[13] before suffering a broken ankle during a 1–0 defeat to Abingdon United on 30 August 2014.[14]
Return to Ashford Town (Middlesex)
In July 2015, Weight returned to Ashford Town (Middlesex).[15]
