CBC Television's Schitt'$ Creek |
Schitt's Creek (advertised as Schitt$ Creek) is a Canadian television sitcom that premiered on CBC Television on January 13, 2015. The series airs in the United States on Pop (previously the TV Guide Network).[1] The series was created by Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy and produced by Not a Real Company Productions.[2] On January 12, 2015, CBC renewed the show for a second season.[3][4] On March 17, 2015, Pop announced that it would continue airing the show in its second season. [5] Season two will consist of 13 episodes.[6] Production resumed during the second week of April 2015.[7] The second season premiered January 12, 2016, on CBC and will premiere March 16, 2016, on Pop.[8][9]
The series stars Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara as Johnny and Moira Rose, a wealthy couple who are forced, after losing all their money, to rebuild their lives in their only remaining asset: the small town of Schitt's Creek, which they once purchased as a joke, where they are living with their two adult children in two adjacent rooms of a rundown motel.[10] The cast also includes Daniel Levy, Annie Murphy, Chris Elliott,[10] Jennifer Robertson and Emily Hampshire.
The series is filmed on location in Goodwood, Ontario, which is located in the Regional Municipality of Durham of the Greater Toronto Area and Mono, Ontario, where the motel scenes are filmed[11] while the interior scenes are filmed at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Toronto.[12]
The name of the show derives from the idiom "up Shit Creek [without a paddle]", implying an extraordinarily difficult or nearly impossible situation, as if stuck in a boat on a proverbial stream full of feces, unable to move one's self out of a terrible circumstance. It is a play on words with "Schitt", an actual surname of Germanic origin.
