Saxon Switzerland Ring
The Saxon Switzerland Ring (German: Sächsische-Schweiz-Ring) is a Regionalbahn link in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. It runs from Pirna via Dürrröhrsdorf, Neustadt in Sachsen and Sebnitz to Bad Schandau. It runs once every two hours between Pirna and Bad Schandau, with an additional service on weekdays once every two hours between Pirna and Neustadt in Sachsen.
History
Through Regionalbahn services on the Saxon Switzerland Ring have been run since 2004, after through train services on the Bautzen–Bad Schandau railway between Bautzen and Neustadt had been withdrawn because passenger numbers had been too low. Since then, trains coming from Pirna have continued from Neustadt to the Sebnitz Valley Railway to Bad Schandau. In the DB railway timetable the line is listed as number 248.
The line has been operated by the Städtebahn Sachsen since 12 December 2010 following a retendering of the transport services.
