Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts

Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts is one of the largest hotel chains in Indonesia and managed under PT. Grahawita Santika, a member of Kompas Gramedia Group. PT. Grahawita Santika was established on August 22, 1981 and has over 40 hotels across Indonesia. Since 2006, PT. Grahawita Santika has changed its strategy based on market segmentation and divided its brands into The Royal Collection, Hotel Santika Premiere, Hotel Santika, and Amaris Hotel.

Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts’ plan is to become the largest chain hotels in Indonesia and its business expands to Southeast Asia. By the end of 2012, Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts will be managing at least 64 properties, which equates to 7,200+ rooms.

History

PT. Grahawita Santika was established to manage the hospitality industry under Kompas Gramedia Group on August 22, 1981. Hotel Soeti was the first hotel purchased from its owner, Mrs. Soetiyah Pudjosuwarno. This Hotel is on Jalan Sumatra No. 52-54, Bandung. In 1988, this simple hotel with 33 rooms built in an area of 3,250 square meters was renovated into 70 rooms. Once the renovation was completed, this hotel was inaugurated as the 3-star Hotel Santika Bandung by the Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications, Susilo Sudarman on March 27, 1989. Hotel Santika Bandung was the forerunner to the establishment of Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.^[1]

The background of the establishment of Hotel Santika, because Kompas daily newspaper was suppressed in 1978, therefore the pioneers of Kompas Gramedia Group should think about the business diversification outside its core business as a communication media. They made the plan in order to prevent mass layoffs. If the Kompas daily newspaper will be suppressed again, there are subsidiaries, which can sustain their employees. Several businesses began to implement, including the hospitality industry.

At the beginning, the proposal for establishing a hotel was not approved because at that time, hotel business was considered a negative connotation and the Return on Investment was progressing slowly. However, Mr. Binawarman Sardjan, who was a member on Investment Team of Kompas Gramedia Group at that time, could convince the Chairman of the Investment Team of Kompas Gramedia Group, Mr. Indra Gunawan, to approve the proposal. Because of the persistence and hard work of Mr. Binawarman Sardjan, Hotel Santika could be established.

Several years after the first Santika Hotel was inaugurated, Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts can develop itself and reach about 40 properties across Indonesia. In accordance with its brand value, "Indonesian Home" and the service motto, "Hospitality from the Heart", Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts always emphasize the value of Indonesian culture, including the hospitality to all guests.^[2]

Hotels and resorts

Currently, Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts has four brands: The Royal Collection, Hotel Santika Premiere, Hotel Santika, and Amaris Hotel across Indonesia.^[2]

The Royal Collection

The Royal Collection is a brand of boutique Villa properties under the property names of The Samaya and The Kayana, which are developed by PT. Grahawita Santika and operated in Bali.^[2]

• The Samaya Seminyak Bali opened on September 27, 2001 under the name Santika Villas. When PT. Grahawita Santika manages this luxury villa, they want to differentiate the brand image between a hotel and a luxury villa so that Santika Villas changed its name to The Samaya Seminyak - Bali in January 2005. The Samaya Seminyak - Bali comprises 24 exclusive villas.
• The Kayana Seminyak Bali is surrounded by gardens and located near the Seminyak Beach. The Kayana Seminyak - Bali consists of 24 private villas. This villa is officially opened on March 31, 2007.
• The Samaya Ubud - Bali opened in December 2009. It is Located in Bali's cultural and artistic capital, Ubud and operates 19 villas.

Hotel Santika Premiere

Hotel Santika Premiere is a brand of four-star properties of Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.^[2] Currently they have eight properties across Indonesia.

• Hotel Santika Premiere Beach Resort Bali was formerly known as Sunset Beach Hotel. Sunset Beach Hotel operated 20 rooms. PT. Grahawita Santika bought and managed this hotel in 1983 and became the second hotel of Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. Then the hotel was built and renovated in 1986. Now, Hotel Santika Premiere Beach Resort Bali is a 4-star hotel with 164 rooms and suites.
• Hotel Santika Premiere Semarang opened on August 21, 1990. It was known as the tallest hotel in Semarang at the time. The 11-story hotel has 125 rooms and suites, restaurant and lounge, ballroom, meeting rooms, spa, and swimming pool.
• Hotel Santika Premiere Jogja. In 1990, Special Region Yogyakarta was chosen as the fifth hotel in the Santika Indonesia Hotels & resorts. Hotel Santika Premiere Jogja was inaugurated on December 17, 1990. This hotel was designed with a touch of architectural Kraton Jogja. Hotel Santika Premiere Jogja comprises 148 rooms.
• Hotel Santika Premiere Seaside Resort – Manado is a hotel owned by other party. The management is entrusted to PT. Grahawita Santika. It is located in Tongkaena, Manado and has 72 rooms and 29 cottages. The former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, inaugurated Hotel Santika Premiere Seaside Resort – Manado on April 12, 1997.
• Hotel Santika Premiere Jakarta was built in 1996 and located close to the city's central business district. The 275-room hotel opened on February 16, 1998, when the monetary crisis hit Indonesia. In 2011, Hotel Santika Premiere Jakarta won the award for the Best 4-star Hotel in Indonesia Tourism Awards 2011 in Jakarta.^[3]
• Hotel Santika Premiere Malang. The apple city, Malang, became the twelfth Hotel Santika. Hotel Santika Premiere Malang is a four star hotel with a minimalist architectural style with 112 rooms and suites. This hotel opened its doors on December 15, 2004.
• Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta was previously known as Ambarrukmo Palace Hotel, one of the first international standard hotels in Indonesia. Ambarrukmo Palace Hotel was opened in 1966 as the first luxury hotel in Yogyakarta. Unfortunately, this hotel was abandoned in 2005. Under the management of PT. Grahawita Santika, this hotel is reborn on October 27, 2011. Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta operates 247 rooms and suites and has beautiful panoramic view of Yogyakarta’s volcanic mountain, Mount Merapi.^[4]
• Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel & Convention – Medan. The grand opening of Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel & Convention – Medan was held in February 15, 2012. This 12-story-hotel has 324 rooms and suites as well as 5 meeting rooms, ballroom with a capacity of 1,000 people, and an Exhibition Hall with a capacity of 3,000 people. Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel & Convention – Medan is the city’s largest hotel and convention.^[5]

Hotel Santika

Hotel Santika is a brand of three-star properties of Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.^[2] Currently they have 15 properties across Indonesia.

• Hotel Santika Bandung is the first Hotel Santika in Indonesia. Hotel Santika Bandung was fully operated on March 27, 1989. Currently, this hotel operates 76 rooms.
• Hotel Santika Semarang is the third hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. PT. Grahawita Santika manages this hotel on November 30, 1983 and had 77 rooms. Currently, this hotel is closed due to renovate its building design.
• Hotel Santika Cirebon. Almost all of the Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia had stayed at Hotel Santika Cirebon, including Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.^[6] At the beginning, Hotel Santika Cirebon was the first hotel owned by other party and managed by PT. Grahawita Santika. This 87-rooms hotel was opened on September 9, 1993. Now, PT. Grahawita Santika owns Hotel Santika Cirebon.
• Hotel Santika Pandegiling – Surabaya opened on February 20, 1998. This hotel operates 124 rooms and suites, restaurant, and meeting rooms. Hotel Santika Pandegiling - Surabaya is the first hotel in Surabaya and the 4th Hotel Santika in Indonesia.
• Hotel Santika Pontianak is the fourth hotel, which is managed by PT. Grahawita Santika. Hotel Santika Pontianak is located in business and commercial district of Pontianak. This 129-room-hotel operates on February 11, 2003.
• Hotel Santika Makassar opened on January 19, 2007, Hotel Santika Makassar operates 108 rooms and suites, restaurant, spa and function room. The property is located near the sunset Losari Beach. Hotel Santika Makassar is the 6th Hotel Santika and the 13th hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.
• Hotel Santika Bogor was built inside the Botani Square Mall. Hotel Santika Bogor has 143 rooms, restaurant, meeting rooms, swimming pool, gym and spa. This hotel began to operate on December 19, 2008 and the grand opening was on February 5, 2009.^[7]
• Hotel Santika Bangka is the largest hotel in Bangka, Pangkalpinang. This hotel has 125 rooms, restaurant, and ballroom up to 300 people, swimming pool, and gym. The opening of Hotel Santika Bangka was on December 17, 2009. This hotel is near the Depati Amir Pangkalpinang Airport and business area.^[8]
• Hotel Santika Balikpapan is located within Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport, Balikpapan. Hotel Santika Balikpapan opened its doors on May 19, 2010. This hotel has 134 rooms.^[9]
• Hotel Santika Kuta – Bali is located close to Kuta Beach. This hotel features 100 rooms, restaurant, meeting rooms, swimming pool, gym and spa. Hotel Santika Kuta – Bali operates on October 10, 2010.
• Hotel Santika Jemursari - Surabaya is located near to Industrial and office area in Surabaya. This hotel opened on June 5, 2011 and has 105 rooms and suites. Hotel Santika Jemursari – Surabaya is the second Hotel Santika in Surabaya and the 12th Hotel Santika in across Indonesia.^[10]
• Hotel Santika Tasikmalaya opened its doors on September 24, 2011. This hotel operates 97 rooms, ballroom, two meeting rooms, restaurant, and swimming pool. This hotel has beautiful panoramic view of Mount Galunggung.^[11]
• Hotel Santika Bengkulu opened on December 15, 2011. This hotel is the 14th Hotel Santika or the 40th hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. This 5-story-hotel operates 80 rooms. Hotel Santika Bengkulu is near the British colonial fort, the Fort Marlborough.^[12]
• Hotel Santika Taman Mini Indonesia Indah - Jakarta is the 15th Hotel Santika or the 44th hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. The opening of Hotel Santika Taman Mini Indonesia Indah – Jakarta is held on April 19, 2012. Hotel Santika Taman Mini Indonesia Indah – Jakarta operates about 124 rooms, restaurant, ballroom, meeting room, and swimming pool.^[13]

Amaris Hotel

Amaris Hotel is a brand of two-star properties or budget hotel of Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. Amaris means promises.^[14] The uniqueness of the Amaris Hotels can be seen from the hotels' color, which consists of green, red, blue, and yellow. Currently they have 18 properties across Indonesia.

• Amaris Hotel Panglima Polim – Jakarta is the first Amaris Hotel in Indonesia and also the 15th hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts. This hotel is opened on September 27, 2007 and has 56 Smart Rooms and a restaurant.
• Amaris Hotel Banjar is the second Amaris Hotel built in Indonesia. This hotel is opened on December 23, 2009 and has 93 rooms.
• Amaris Hotel Ambon opened on February 14, 2010. Amaris Hotel Ambon features 78 Rooms. This hotel is the third Amaris Hotel and the 20th hotel in Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.^[15]
• Amaris Hotel Bandara Soekarno – Hatta is located 5 minutes from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. This 118-Smart Rooms-hotel was opened publicly on March 20, 2010. Amaris Hotel Bandara Soekarno – Hatta is the fourth Amaris Hotel in Indonesia.^[16]
• Amaris Hotel Panakkukang – Makassar is located in the Makassar’s business district and near the shopping mall. This hotel has 94 Smart Rooms and fully operates on July 5, 2010.^[17]
• Amaris Hotel Palangkaraya became fully operational on July 9, 2010. This hotel is located near the Kayahan River and Kayahan Bridge.^[18] Amaris Hotel Palangkaraya has 63 Rooms and a restaurant.
• Amaris Hotel Cimanuk – Bandung is located near Gedung Sate, the Governor’s office. The hotel has 60 rooms and operates on July 15, 2010.^[19] Amaris Hotel Cimanuk – Bandung is the 7th Amaris Hotel in Indonesia.
• Amaris Hotel Diponegoro – Jogja opened its doors on August 9, 2010. This hotel provides 71 Smart Rooms and a restaurant. This hotel is near the Jogjakarta well-known shopping district, Malioboro.^[20]
• Amaris Hotel Cihampelas – Bandung is located near one of the largest mall in Bandung, Ciwalk, Amaris Hotel Cihampelas - Bandung operates on September 9, 2010. This hotel has 132 Smart Rooms, 3 meeting rooms, and a restaurant.^[21]
• Amaris Hotel Pekanbaru began operating on October 20, 2010, it's the 10th Amaris Hotel in Indonesia.^[22] This hotel provides 99 Smart Rooms and a restaurant. Amaris Hotel Pekanbaru is near the business and shopping center.
• Amaris Hotel Pemuda – Semarang opened on October 28, 2010. This 82-Smart Rooms-hotel is located near the business and shopping center.
• Amaris Hotel Mangga Dua Square – Jakarta is located in Mangga Dua Square Mall, Jakarta. This 250-Smart Rooms-hotel is the largest Amaris Hotel in Indonesia. This hotel opened its door on December 12, 2010.
• Amaris Hotel Legian – Bali is located near the sunset Legian Beach. This hotel has 115 rooms, a restaurant, and swimming pool. Amaris Hotel Legian - Bali operates on December 20, 2010.
• Amaris Hotel Mangga Besar – Jakarta. This 101-Smart Rooms-hotel is opened on February 25, 2011. Amaris Hotel Mangga Besar – Jakarta is located near the business and shopping complexes. Amaris Hotel Mangga Besar - Jakarta is the 14th Amaris Hotel in Indonesia.^[23]
• Amaris Hotel Senen – Jakarta became fully operational on April 17, 2011. It is located near the business and shopping center. Amaris Hotel Senen – Jakarta features 72 Smart Rooms and 2 meeting rooms. “Moderinity in Jakarta’s Colorful Heart” is the tagline of Amaris Hotel Senen – Jakarta.^[24]
• Amaris Hotel Padjajaran - Bogor. Opened on September 9, 2001, this hotel operates 115 Smart Rooms, a restaurant, and meeting rooms. This hotel is located within walking distance to Bogor Botanical Garden.^[25]
• Amaris Hotel Thamrin City – Jakarta. Located in Thamrin City Mall, Jakarta, it opened its doors on December 25, 2011. This hotel operates 134 Smart Rooms and meeting rooms.
• Amaris Hotel Tendean – Jakarta. This 99-Smart Rooms-Hotel is the tallest Amaris Hotel in Indonesia. Its is the 18th Amaris Hotel in Indonesia and operated on January 12, 2012.^[26]
