Sakamoto Station (坂元駅 Sakamoto-eki) is a railway station operated by JR East in Yamamoto, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The station is currently closed following severe damage in the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami when the building and platform were severely damaged. JR East plans to move the station to a new location slightly farther inland, and aims to re-open the surrounding section of the Joban Line by 2017.[1]

Sakamoto Station is served by the Jōban Line, and is located 321.2 rail kilometers from the official starting point of the line at Nippori Station.

History
Sakamoto Station opened on November 10, 1897. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987. Services on the Joban Line between Hamayoshida Station and Soma Station have been suspended due to damage caused by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
