Safeguard was with the Recon Team after being cut off from Gigantion, and became Vector Prime's personal Mini-Con partner.
Animated series
Though he has little personal screen time, he constantly appears with Vector Prime, either helping him with data analysis, serving as a scout, or attached to his arm in weapon mode. Seeing as how Vector Prime is like unto a knight, Safeguard can be seen as his squire.
Safeguard was saddened by Vector Prime's untimely sacrifice towards the end of the series. In the final episode, he joined Optimus Prime, who was seemingly Vector Prime's closest friend among the Autobots.
Fun Publications
Safeguard also had a role in the Transformers: Cybertron comic tie-ins published by the Collector's Club comic.

In Transformers Animated, Autobots cannot fly. Characters like Powerglide, who's G1 counterpart transforms into a plane, now transforms into land-based vehicles. This gave the Decepticon a big advantage until Jetfire and his brother Jetstorm, Autobot twins who were miners, were fitted with technology scanned from Starscream while he was in Elite Guard captivity. They have the power to create powerful whirlwinds in both robot and jet modes. Jetstorm has the ability to combine with Jetfire, forming Safeguard. In their combined vehicle mode they resemble an X-wing fighter from Star Wars. The two are enthusiastic young fighters, but do tend to rush into things. He speaks with both the twins' voices simultaneously.[2] The twins' merging into Safeguard is similar to ChoRyuJin of The King of Braves GaoGaiGar. Toys of Jetfire and Jetstorm sold together can combine to form Safeguard.
