Saúl Berjón Pérez (born 24 May 1986), simply known as Saúl, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for SD Eibar as a left winger or forward.
Club career
Born in Oviedo, Asturias, Saúl graduated from Real Oviedo's youth setup, but started playing as a senior with lowly Berrón CF. After representing Tercera División clubs CD Lealtad and UP Langreo, he joined Segunda División B's UD Pájara Playas de Jandía in the 2007 summer.
Saúl scored nine goals during the season, and subsequently moved to UD Las Palmas in Segunda División on 19 May 2008.[1] He played his first match as a professional on 30 August, coming on as a substitute for Sergio Suárez in the 56th minute of a 0–1 away loss against Real Sociedad.[2]
Saúl scored his first professional goal on 13 September 2008, in a 2–2 home draw against Real Zaragoza.[3] He netted five more during his debut campaign with the Canary Islands side.
On 20 August 2010, Saúl joined FC Barcelona for a €300,000 fee,[4] being assigned to the reserves also in the second level.[5] He appeared regularly for the Catalans, before being loaned to fellow league team AD Alcorcón on 30 August 2011.[6]
On 4 August 2012, Saúl signed for Real Murcia.[7] After narrowly avoiding relegation in 2012–13 he featured in 43 matches during the following season, scoring six goals as the Pimentoneros finished fourth but were relegated due to financial problems.
On 26 August 2014 Saúl signed a two-year deal with SD Eibar, newly promoted to La Liga.[8] He made his debut in the competition four days later, replacing Dani García in a 1–2 loss at Atlético Madrid,[9] and scored his first league goal on 4 September, netting his side's second through a spectacular volley in a 3–3 home draw against Levante UD.[10]
Personal life
Saúl's cousin, Adrián Colunga, is also a footballer. A striker, he played in several clubs during his career, representing Recreativo de Huelva, Real Zaragoza and Getafe CF in La Liga.[5]
