SOLAS (Irish: An tSeirbhís Oideachais Leanúnaigh agus Scileanna, English: Further Education and Training Authority) is a state agency in Ireland with responsibility for assisting those seeking employment. It was established on 27 October 2013.
Overview
The authority, whose Irish language name literally translates as "Further Education and Skills Service", was the successor to FÁS as a result of its dissolution in July 2013. The authority is responsible for funding, planning and co-ordinating training and further education programmes. The Department of Social Protection took over the responsibility from FÁS for Community Employment and Employment Services. Until the transfer process is complete, SOLAS will manage training on a temporary basis. Training courses will continue as normal and learners will not be affected by the organisational change. The authority will be fully operational by mid-2014.[1]
