Russell Calvert
Russell John Calvert (1 February 1909 – 20 August 2011) was a New Zealand local-body politician. He served as Mayor of Dunedin between 1965 and 1968.
Biography
Calvert was born in Masterton[1] in 1909. He was educated at Nelson College in 1923 and in Wellington.[1][2]
He moved to Dunedin and established a dental technician's laboratory there. He became involved in local-body politics in the 1940s and was first elected to the Dunedin City Council in 1958. He served one term as mayor from 1965 to 1968.[1]
Following his retirement, Calvert resided in Arrowtown, Christchurch and then Nelson.[1] He died in 2011 aged 102.[3]
