Ruqayyah Boyer (Arab رقية born April 28, 1992) is a Surinamese-Guyanese actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder. She is also a student at university majoring in international relations and an FAA certified cabin crew.[1] She is a Muslim-Born woman and being the second Guyanese-Muslim to win these pageants. She became the first and only Guyanese to participate in the Big Four international beauty pageants she also will represent Guyana at Miss Earth 2015 pageant.
Miss Universe Guyana 2012
Boyer was crowned Miss Universe Guyana 2012 by Leila Lopes (Miss Universe 2011's winner).[2] The pageant was held at the Princess Hotel on September 14, 2012. During a question and answer segment, Boyer said that Lopes was her role model.
First runner-up in the pageant was Nikita Barker, second runner-up was Canadian-Guyanese Sadhna Yunus, and third runner-up was Nikesha Alexander.[3]
On December 14, 2012, Boyer fell to the ground during the preliminary evening gown competition at Miss Universe 2012, prompting international headlines.[4]
Miss World Guyana 2013
Ruqayyah Boyer was chosen by the new franchise owner, Natasha Martindale as she is currently Miss Universe Guyana 2012, represented Guyana at Miss Universe 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a finalist in Miss World Guyana 2012.[1]
She represented Guyana in Bali, Indonesia for Miss World 2013 that was later won by Megan Young whom she befriended during her stay there. They were seen together in numerous vlogs throughout the competition.
In the same year Boyer received a Citation Award from the City of New York for her work to combat domestic violence and bullying through the Caribbean American Domestic Violence Association.
She was presented with the award by Councilman Ruben Wills at a recent fundraising event in her honour in New York.
Wills commended Boyer for taking an international stand against both issues particularly highlighting how bullying was often a precursor to domestic violence.
Miss International Guyana 2014
Boyer represented Guyana at the Miss International Pageant in Tokyo Japan.
